In this session the topic of OSM POI data and its usefulness for blind navigation users will be explored. Through examples ranging from height of buildings, inscriptions of monuments and random facts dropped in editor’s notes, the participants will discover how complete POI data contributes to a more accessible and inclusive world. Accessible mobile tools and strategies allowing for access to POI data and navigation will be presented, followed by a discussion of possible improvement scenarios for greater participation of the blindness community in the consumption and creation of OSM data. Examples of such strategoes might include accessible mapping tools, additional tags and mapping categories and inclusion into local OSM communities. Participants will leave the talk equipped with knowledge on how their work within the OSM community contributes to improved mobility for persons with disabilities. They will also gather ideas for reflection on the state of OSM data globally and strategies to make local communities a place where new meaningful connections revolving around the common goal of creating open data can be forged.
